Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art that means The Way of Hand and Foot. Tae Kwon Do uses strikes, blocks, and kicks as a means of self-protection. Tae Kwon Do encompasses not only a method of self-defense, but it is also a sport that encourages fair play and respect for one's opponent, an exercise program, and a way to develop self-confidence, self-discipline, and self respect.

At the Family Martial Arts Center we strive to teach a balanced approach to Tae Kwon Do. We want our students to feel confident in their ability to defend themselves, but we also want them to be in their best physical shape while developing their character as well.

Our instructors emphasize the use of the Five Tenets: Self Control, Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance and Indomitable Spirit. The development of these character traits benefit the student not only in Tae Kwon Do but also at home, school or work thus making each student a better person and better member of society. Our Tae Kwon Do classes have grown in popularity because we offer an activity that challenges each person to be their personal best both physically and mentally.

We have four Tae Kwon Do classes designed to fit the needs of students of different ages. The Little Dragons class is a special class for children 5 - 6 years of age, Tigers class is for students 6 - 8 years old, Regular Tae Kwon Do is for students 8 and older and Adult/Teen classes are for students age 13 and older. We also offer an After School Program for 1st - 8th graders.

Our Tae Kwon Do classes also have many benefits for adults. Most adults find our classes to be a welcome diversion from their busy workday. The physical workout provides stress relief while helping to improve their physical conditioning. Tae Kwon Do helps to develop physical strength, endurance and flexibility.

New students in Tae Kwon Do begin in a short introductory course that is designed to teach the beginning student the basic physical and mental aspects of Tae Kwon Do. The course consists of two classes where basic techniques are introduced along with the Five Tenets of Tae Kwon Do. Upon completion of the Introductory Course, the student will have a good idea of what Tae Kwan Do is really about and will also be ready to join the beginner's class.
